The head coach of the Nigeria national team, Sunday Oliseh, in a chat with complete sports, defended his decision not to invite Manchester City of England midfield sensation Kelechi Iheanacho for next month friendly matches between Cameroon and Congo.
Oliseh, who handed a late call up to Arsenal's Alex Iwobi, was in many quarters questioned for not inviting Iheanacho, who has started to feature regularly for the English giant.
Oliseh, who stressed that Iheanacho, might not yet be ready for the national team, also added that every player, who is eligible to represent the country, will get their chance sometime soon.
Speaking exclusively to Completsportsnigeria.com, Oliseh said; “Iheanacho will get his time with the Super Eagles no doubt but we must not rush him into the squad,"
Oliseh, also said Iheanacho has to prove him self, he disclosed that the midfielder, is currently nursing an injury.
“He’s currently nursing an injury and he needs substantial time on the pitch as well.
“We acknowledge his talent but he still needs to prove that with the Olympic squad as well.
“Iwobi has just got the much awaited green light to feature for Nigeria and we need such talents to in the team just as Iheanacho.
“Everybody will get his chance to showcase what they can offer the team but we the coaches will invite them at the right time so they don’t perform below what we expect.” he concluded.
